Pastor: Parker James
Benjamin Lett is the co-pastor. He is experienced in working with mercy ministries and non-profit organizations responsible for serving meals at a community center.
Lord of Glory is a mission church of the PCA, still under development.
The church meets Sunday evenings at Hill Chapel Baptist Church. The cooperation between the two churches has allowed unity to grow, both racially and ecumenically, and has allowed joint outreach efforts. Bread of Heaven is a ministry of Hill Chapel Baptist that connects with a local food bank. Members from LoG actively partner with Bread of Heaven throughout the week.
LoG has had a benevolence fund since inception and an active diaconate. Benevolence has provided for times of financial crisis. Individual church members have also had the opportunity to provide work to those within the congregation.
Meals are regularly served resulting from successful children’s ministry outreach efforts to the local community. LoG would like to turn this into a mentorship/guardian program for attending children.
Pastors from both churches are actively involved in a prayer network for local pastors focusing on racial reconciliation. This network has provided the potential for inter-church outreach projects.
Affected Area: One of the large areas in Athens is poverty through unemployment. The racial divide has especially affected local African American residents. Many of the employees in Athens are not residents of Athens.
LoG has plans to put together programs such as Jobs for Life and Faith & Finances, involving paying students to learn soft job skills; and a Job bank.
